About our Program

See Something... Know Something... Say Something! Anonymously Contact Crime Stoppers!

Johnson County Crime Stoppers began in 1983 by a dedicated group of concerned citizens desiring safer communities and lower crime working in close cooperation with law enforcement agencies throughout Johnson County.  The Crime Stoppers Board of Directors, comprised of local concerned citizens who volunteer their time, governs and operates the program. Tips are managed by a law enforcement coordinator. There are also law enforcement representatives from each Police Department and the Sheriff's Office who serve the Board of Directors in an advisory capacity.

The concept has developed into a combination of efforts by local media, businesses, civic and social clubs, law enforcement agencies, and the public. Donations of airtime, newspaper space, and reward monies have established Crime Stoppers as an effective tool to fight crime in the area. Johnson County Crime Stoppers, Inc. is a state certified program that follows the guidelines set forth by the Texas Crime Stoppers Advisory Council.

In 1996 Johnson County Crime Stoppers was instrumental in enhancing the effectiveness of Crime Stoppers programs throughout the entire State of Texas. To find out how, read the Statewide Program Got a Burleson Kickoff article from the June/July issue of the Burleson Progress Report.

Why Do We Need Crime Stoppers?

Crime Stoppers is based on the principle that "someone other than the criminal has information that can solve a crime." It was created to combat three major problems faced by law enforcement: fear of reprisal; an attitude of apathy; and reluctance to get involved. Crime Stoppers resolves these problems by offering anonymity to people who provide information about crimes and by paying rewards when that information leads to an arrest and/or charges filed.

Mission Statement

Our Mission is simple....

STOP CRIME!

The mission of Johnson County Crime Stoppers, Inc. is to carry out a community offensive against crime through law enforcement, citizen involvement and the media; encouraging all citizens to report anonymous information about criminal activity; and offering rewards for information that helps law enforcement solve unsolved crimes. The goal of Crime Stoppers is to bring the perpetrator of a crime into the Criminal Justice System by using the combined resources of citizens, media, and law enforcement.

Crime Stoppers is comprised of diverse, active and dedicated community representatives. Crime Stoppers provides a method for local law enforcement to receive information on crimes. These efforts increase tips, which in turn increase arrests in our community. |
